Mt. Tamalpais – Steep Ravine

A couple of weeks back Leila and I went up to the North Bay to finally hike Mt Tam. After 10+ years of living in the Bay Area, I can’t believe I have never been up here. The day was a typical January day in the Bay. 60 degrees and sunny! Perfect hiking conditions. The hike is quite amazing and I highly suggest it. You begin at the Pantoll Ranger station on Mt. Tam. There are probably 10 different trails that intersect in this area, so it is a pretty popular area. You can get to Muir woods and Stenson Beach amongst other places from here. The trail is called the Steep Ravine. It descends through a Redwood Forest and fern grove while following a seasonal creek. You could take this trail all the way to Stenson Beach if you like. A couple of miles down the SR trail we cut up the Dipsea Trail. It was an intense climb, but lead us to amazing views of the bay area. Photos of the trip below!
